A “Shark Tank”-style event is headed to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, February 1 from 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m.

The Storytelling Showcase is an annual event that’s hosted by the Victory Cup Initiative (Website), a Winter Park-based organization led by Ashley Vann that promotes the work of nonprofits in Central Florida.

The event will feature 10 local organizations that will share their stories in just 150 seconds in front of an audience of 500 community and business leaders while competing for cash prizes totaling $100,000, with prizes coming in increments of $30,000 for first place, $25,000 for second, and $20,000 for third. The money awarded during the event is completely unrestricted and can be used in a variety of ways to support the winners’ causes.

Last year’s event at Alfond Inn saw the prize winnings increase by 5x when attendees suddenly decided to chip in for the participating nonprofits.

This year’s organizations include:

  • Central Florida Vocal Arts
  • Commission 127
  • Community Legal Services
  • Conservation Florida
  • Elevation Scholars
  • Family Promise of Brevard, Inc.
  • Franklin’s Friends
  • Sheperd’s Hope
  • Special Hearts Farm
  • The Verb Kind

This year’s event will be emceed by Scott Maxwell of Orlando Sentinel and Steward Moore from WESH 2.
