WPRK 91.5 FM, the official radio station for Rollins College, will host a special fundraising broadcast on February 20, 2024 as part of its annual Giving Day celebrations.
The 24-hour, college-wide fundraising initiative. will feature local bands for nine straight hours, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., aired live on 91.5 FM with a video livestream on various social media platforms and wprk.org, including performances by Orange Ave, Sistamatic, ADMN, Natasha Luce, JesCe Berry, and lofishak.
Funds raised throughout the day will help fund several initiatives at the student-run station, including:
- Upgrading Computers and Software: WPRK is currently using older technology that needs to be upgraded. The station will also be seeking help from professional radio technicians to help update its programming and software.
- Student Training for Audio Engineering: This training helps Rollins students learn audio engineering, to get more live performances on air and at community events.
- ● 2-Week Show Archive: Hosting a two-week archive of radio shows on the WPRK app for listeners to listen to their favorite shows after they’ve aired.
- Helping our Literary Journal, Magazine, and Newspaper: Ensuring that students within media programs are adequately served with the resources necessary to produce and publish journalism.
In honor of the Sandspur’s 130th anniversary, WPRK is hoping to recruit at least 130 donors this Giving Day. If they reach the target, they can unlock an extra $2,500 for Student Media programming, courtesy of 1963 WPRK alumnus Dr. Jerry F. Green.
