Main Street America is teaming up with American Express for the fourth year for a special grant program geared specifically for small historic restaurants.
The Backing Historic Small Restaurants grant is meant to support restaurants that have stood the test of time and served their communities for decades, but need an extra hand keeping up with exterior, public-facing improvements that often get overlooked.
The partnership will be awarding 50 grants of $50,000 each, doubling in size since last year which recognized only 25 restaurants.
The grant program has a preference for restaurants that are owned and operated by underrepresented groups, including People of Color and women. Businesses must also have been operating for at least 25 years and be located in a historic building or neighborhood.
