“My name is Andrew and I am half of the couple, along with my wife Pj, who rescued Lola the swan. Our goal from the Instagram page has always been to inspire kindness and love for animals. We have also been inspired by the outpouring of support, and are in the beginning stages of forming a foundation that would be in support of the downtown Orlando waterfowl, so we may further provide care, nutrition, and education.”

According to the video testimonial, which you can hear below, the swan was one of a group of cygnets to hatch at an unnamed lake near downtown Orlando. It was eventually rejected by its mother and left in the nest unattended before being scooped up by park rangers.

The rangers try to introduce the cygnet to other parents hoping it would be fostered by them but realized she needed to be rescued and fostered by humans instead. They raised the swan till she was large enough to fend for herself and she was re-introduced to a sibling with the help of the City of Orlando (in the video it looks as if that lake was Lake Eola).

However because she hadn’t been socialized on the lake, she was picked on by a big bully swan and unable to stay in the area. So she’s back with her foster humans, who now call her Lola, where she’s adapted to indoor living with the couple’s dog.

Lola the Swan (Instagram) and her humans were recently featured by GeoBeats Animals, an American media company that shares inspirational animal stories, on socials and YouTube.
