The City of Orlando is looking to possibly increase stormwater fees for its residents by at least 50% over the next four years.

If approved, this would be the first time stormwater fees have increased in 16 years, since 2008. The fees will be based on the size of the property owner’s lot, and how much of it is impervious, like with roofs, driveways, and porches that push rainwater into the streets and clog stormwater systems.

Smaller properties are expected to see a 50% increase while larger properties could see a spike of roughly 130%, bringing stormwater revenue from $30 million-$60 million by 2028.

The City says the increase in collections will help pay for much-needed improvements in overall system maintenance and improving the water quality in Orlando’s lakes and water bodies.

City Council is expected to vote on the increases at the Monday, May 13 city council meeting.
