Like we told you before in this previous Did You Know-town column, at one time Orange County was known as Mosquito County. The name, which was inspired by early Spanish explorers, was changed in January 1845 after brief stints as Leigh Read County and Harrison County.

The Orange County Regional History Center (Website) will be hosting a special Heritage Day event on January 27 to celebrate the founding of Orange County.

During the celebration, the History Center will display a proclamation that denotes Orange Couty Heritage Day and honors the county’s founding. Admission to the museum will be free from noon to 5 p.m. and visitors can enjoy free family activities like a scavenger hunt and button-making inspired by citrus crate labels.
