Orlando’s Downtown Development Board/Community Redevelopment Agency is looking at some upgrades for lighting in the downtown core.

The CRA has allegedly been upgrading downtown lighting slowly through the last few years but they are looking to turn up the speed a bit in a recent proposal to City Hall that would see them upgrade large sections of Orange Avenue, Jackson Street, Church Street, Pine Street, Central Boulevard, Wall Street, Washington Street, Jefferson Street, Court Avenue, and Parramore Avenue.

Improving the lighting in the downtown core was something that was identified as a priority in 2014’s Project DTO initiative meant to help guide Orlando’s growth over the next 10 years.

Improvements include removing existing light fixtures and installing brighter, more energy-efficient LED fixtures on the current acorn light poles in the Central Business District.

The lighting upgrades are estimated to cost roughly $575,000.
