Earlier today, the fledgling United States Football League and XFL have both announced their intention to merge.

The USFL is a stand-alone professional spring football league that kicked off its second season on April 15, 2023, is broadcast by FOX and NBC Sports, and is led by former NFL Dallas Cowboys player and FOX NFL analyst Daryl “Moose” Johnston. XFL launched in February 2023 with eight teams, including one in Orlando.

The decision to merge is now subject to regulatory approvals and, according to a press release issued by the XFL, if the transaction is “consummated,” the new league will then establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues.

This pairing is expected by both leagues to help anchor professional spring football with more resources and a better talent pool to help ensure future growth.

More details regarding the new combined league are expected to be announced soon. The deal is still being finalized.
