The Orlando City Council agreed to award the contract to build a temporary parking lot under the interstate at this week’s council meeting, moving the project forward to help several (remaining) businesses on Church Street that were negatively affected by the loss of surface parking back before work began on the Ultimate I-4 project in April 2017.

The City recently announced that the long-awaited Under-i Park project, now named The Canopy, would also include a section with temporary parking with 150 spots, alongside loads of projections, Oz-like tree sculptures, and food truck courts.

Mayor Dyer shared during the council meeting that the project would be starting almost immediately to help those downtown businesses sooner rather than later.

The work for the temporary parking was just awarded to Mercon Construction Company, which came in with the lowest bid at $640,852.
