We told you HERE in November 2018 that a new YMCA facility was in the works for the 200+ acre Packing District project in western College Park/Fairvilla area.
The new Leonard & Marjorie Williams Family YMCA (Website) was made possible with an $8.9 million grant from Dr. Phillips Charities and will be located at the planned roundabout at Princeton Street and Texas Avenue, at the northern end of the planned park space.
The new 33,000 SF facility will serve residents in the College Park area and surrounding communities and the new Y family center will be a cornerstone of the development and feature a new six-lane lap swimming pool, an interactive splash pad, a multi-purpose boutique studio room for classes and academic programs, a child development area for children under the age of 12, wellness studios and workout equipment, locker facilities and private changing areas, and more.
Our new friend Sonya “Coach” Crider, the Executive Director of the new YMCA took us on a tour which you can watch below on our Instagram page. Crider will also be participating in a new program that teaches adults how to swim, later this year.
