This is our latest rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week, in Orlando’s downtown “bungalow neighborhoods.” Click HERE to listen to Episode 308 of Bungalower and The Bus on Real Radio 104.1, recorded at the new The Hen and Hog in Winter Park (it used to be Mason Jar Provisions in Thornton Park).
TOP TEN HEADLINES
- Mills 50’s arguably diviest dive bar, St. Matthew’s Tavern, has sold to Team Market Group, who plan to keep it as it is for the time being, albeit much cleaner. They’re still formulating final plans for the space but the one thing we do know is that the bathrooms will be fixed. TMG also purchased The Acre in College Park/Lake Fairview.
- After almost two years of being closed due to a permitting snafu, Winter Park Fish Company has magically reopened.
- The Orlando Solar Bears are looking to break a Guinness World Record next month for most tie-dye worn in the same place at the same time. So, obviously, the Grateful Dead has never been sober enough to count Dead Heads at their concerts.
- One of Orlando’s oldest English pubs (perhaps the oldest), Bull and Bush, has sold to new owners. They plan to keep it pretty much as-is, but with a couple more televisions to watch English footy.
- A fancy new Art Deco/Nouveau-styled lounge has opened in Mills 50 called The Moderne. It serves up Asian-inspired tapas and craft cocktails and it’s pretty stunning.
- Losing track of what has recently opened? We did a roundup of new bars and restaurants that opened in 2022 to help you out.
